Monroe County is ranked sixth largest in land area, among Tennessee’s 95 counties, and offers beautiful sights and outstanding opportunity. We are blessed with picturesque rivers, mountains, valleys, streams, and lakes.

I would like to extend my personal invitation for you to visit our county where you may travel our National Scenic Byway, the Cherohala Skyway. This beautiful, mountain drive will take you through the Cherokee and Nantahala National Forests, extending from Tellico Plains, Tennessee to Robinsville, North Carolina. Along the way, you will find many places to camp, hike, picnic, or swim.

Monroe County has experienced tremendous growth (among the top 25% of all Tennessee counties), yet its tax rate remains one of the lowest in the State. And, with Monroe County property offering outstanding value, you will find a place sure to suit your needs. From lakeside homes in the northern part of the county along Tellico Lake to farms, lands, mountain homes, cottages, and contemporary developments in the Madisonville, Sweetwater, Tellico Plains, and Vonore areas, there is a place for you in Monroe County.

Our strong industrial base includes many leading manufacturers serving diverse markets. These fine companies enjoy successful operations from sites inside our well planned industrial parks and from stand alone, well placed facilities throughout the County. Employers and employees have found Monroe County a favorable place to connect and grow rewarding businesses and careers.

So whether you are searching for a place to do business, relocate, or simply travel, we encourage you to consider Monroe County. I am confident that you will receive a warm welcome and will want to visit us again. Come see us soon!

County Mayor, Tim Yates
