Welcome From the Mayor

MitchHello, and welcome to the official website for Monroe County, Tennessee and I would like to personally welcome you to explore this special place 46,000 residents call home.
As Mayor, my door is always open. Whether you are a life-long citizen, here on business, or just passing through for a weekend getaway, I encourage you to stop in and share your thoughts and ideas with my staff and I so we can continue to make Monroe County the best place to live, work, worship, educate and play in the entire state of Tennessee.
Monroe County (est. November 13, 1819) is nestled in southeast Tennessee, 58 miles south of Knoxville, and 74 miles north of Chattanooga. Home to one of the most beautiful National Scenic Byways in the country, and the Gateway to the Cherokee National Forest, the Cherohala Skyway runs through the heart of 1,024 acres of the most pristine natural beauty east of the Mississippi. Connecting the two towns of Tellico Plains and Robbinsville, North Carolina, the Cherohala Skyway offers a full view of the natural beauty that encompasses our region. Around every curve you will gain a deep understanding of why we truly consider this to be God’s Country.
As the 6th largest county in the state, we are blessed to have 653 square miles of pristine rivers, lakes, mountains, and valleys that provide a number of economic and recreational opportunities. Among the access to hundreds of miles of trails and trout filled streams, you will find hundreds of acres of agricultural land, contemporary and modern homes, lake side properties, and industrial developments of outstanding value that have the potential to fit a wide variety of needs. Due to our low tax rates, diverse workforce, and close proximity to Interstate-75, we have a wide range of businesses and manufacturing facilities of all sizes that serve various different markets and industries. The opportunity for growth here is unlimited, and we encourage you to consider Monroe County as a potential place to plant your roots.
Our interactive website consists of a variety of links and tools to help you navigate through our many diverse resources and attractions. Using these tools, you will find access to interactive maps, lists and locations of local schools, contact information for elected officials, and other resources related to our many government offices. If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to stop by my office, or simply use the “Contact Us” link.
So, whether you are searching for a place to do business, travel for recreation, or enjoy retirement, we encourage you to make Monroe County your destination of choice. I am confident you will enjoy your time here.

God Bless! Mitch Ingram, Monroe County Mayor
